When you are little, art is constant, daily, playful. When you are little you are always drawing, coloring, building, squishing, watching, imagining, expanding your understanding of the world around you. As you grow up, there is a change. That change tells some kids that they aren’t good at art, don’t have time for their imagination, need to focus on more important things. Suddenly, art is gone for those kids. Other kids find a way to keep art and they may be considered artsy, creative, weird, fun, silly, distracted, lost, balanced. As you go through school, the kids who have chosen to keep art in their lives have a place called “The Art Room”. It’s a magical place. The kids who chose a different path, may wonder about the art room, wish they were artistic or brave enough for the art room. Those kids grow into adults and claim “I’m not an artist, I can’t draw, I wish I were creative!” The artists know the truth, all are created to create in their own way, all one needs is to explore their gifts.
The Art Room is here for you, The Art Room is ready for those who have a wish, a hope, a sparkle that needs to be set free with no rules. The Art Room will release you from the routine of the responsibilities of adulting, studying, living. The Art Room will connect you to this world that doesn’t make sense and give back some love and kindness that it needs.
The Art Room is your place to come if you are a human who wants and needs a creative outlet, to expand your mind and try new things. The Art Room is for you to come and play.
ARTifacts about your teacher, Ms Heather:
I feel blessed that I have had so many encouraging art experiences in my life. I have lived my life as an artist and remember fondly so many of my early artistic joys. My goal is to give my students a fun and memorable art experience. Whether or not someone becomes an artist, they have the ability to see the world around them with wide-open, curious and creative eyes. Their art classes will enrich their lives forever.
I knew I would somehow have a life of art, I just didn't know how, and I didn't want to be a "starving artist." I went to Flagler College and took a Graphic Design class, because I heard that was a solid job if you wanted a career in art. I fell in love with the process of Digital Art and Design Layout. Alongside my Graphics classes, I also took fine art classes such as drawing, painting and photography. If I had had more time I would have taken every art class offered. I graduated with a Major Degree in Graphic Design and a Minor in Fine Art.
I worked in the Advertising world (yes, it's exactly like Mad Men;) as an Art Director and Designer, up until 2 days before the birth of my first daughter. I knew once I became a mother, I would stay at home with my children. I was blessed to have a husband who agreed. I still continued to do small jobs of freelance design work from home and began to paint murals in peoples homes. Along the way I have had quite a colorful amount of creative art jobs - see kids, no starving artists allowed! I began teaching for an after school art company and loved being with the kids. Shortly after that, I was asked by someone if I would like to teach part-time at a school in need of an art teacher. I had always loved the idea of becoming a teacher to do all of the fun projects and have all the amazing experiences I had when I was a kid. When I was interviewed, they said they were looking for a teacher to make art fun again for the students... well I knew then, that it was meant to be! I taught 5 years of K-8th grade at that school and then also at an art center in Jacksonville. When we bought a home with the perfect space for creating art and having classes, I was excited open up the space to you! I want to share art with everyone and anyone who has the excitement to try.
Welcome To The Art Room LLC officially began classes in January 2018. We had a successful first semester of homeschool art, after school art, crochet, hand-lettering, BASCA, Inc art (for special needs), Prayerful Painting and Open Studio Saturdays. I hope to offer more classes throughout the years to come, thank you for coming to create with me!

These are a few of my fav-o-rite things:
I love Jesus, my talented husband, my two smart teenagers, my floppy-eared Doberman (Olive) and two fluffy cats (Henry & Stella). I love coffee in the morning and kombucha in the afternoon. I love pie for breakfast (but don’t get to have it nearly enough!) I love to go thrifting to find interesting treasures. My favorite feeling is standing on top of a snowy mountain or swimming with flippers and goggles deep underwater in a cold Florida spring. Take me to an Art Museum or a Concert any day and I will be your bff!
Thanks for stopping by, next time you see me, tell me about your favorite things!
