About this class:
This class is for beginners (Part A & B) or for those looking for a new skill or project to dust off the hooks (Part B)!
Before you sign up for this class, make sure you are prepare to allow for practice time every day while you are in this class. You will not have success with this skill if you only practice it while in class once a week. When you come in each week I want to hear about your f frustrations, problems and successes! We will keep tweaking your movements to get your muscle memory in motion. Once your muscle memory kicks in, it will become less frustrating and more relaxing. The benefits is coming to an in person class is that you have someone checking your motions to help you figure out how to keep going with success. After 4 weeks you will be on your way and able to to work on your own watching videos and learning more on your own. This is not meant to be a class that you repeat, but keep learning on your own. Part B you can repeat as much as you want if you are having difficulty reading a pattern or leaning a new stitch. But once you learn the basic stitches eventually all new stitches and pattens should be easy to figure out on your own with time and videos!
In Part A, we will walk you through different types of hooks and you can see which you are most comfortable with. If you have hooks already, please bring them and I will get you started on those. We will also discuss types of and provide yarn for you the first 4 weeks, after that you will bring your own that you will want to use for your specific projects.
Week one: discuss types of hooks, types of yarn, learn to make a slip knot, how to hold your hands and what your fingers do, learn the basic muscle movement to chain and possibly learn how to single crochet into the chain.
Week two: quickly review slip knot and chain. Check the work you did at home. Review single crochet or work on fixing any problems you may have had. Learn half double crochet stitch. (Homework is building on your chain to create a washcloth as you build your muscle memory.)
Week three: bring your work to class! We will discuss your progress, make adjustments and learn a new stitch if your read. Next stitch today is double crochet and triple (treble) crochet. Learn how to weave in tails.
Week four: depending on where students are, we will keep working on basic linear crochet. For those ready to move on we will learn how to crochet in the round (beginning from a chain or a magic circle) and make a coaster.
In Part B we will learn how to read a pattern. In this session you will be expected to bring your own yarn, set of hooks and project ideas so we can learn what you would like!
