Beyond a Straight Line:: Refining and Building upon your Sewing Skills

Join  Mrs.Eva as you expand your sewing horizons. This class is for the student who wants to increase their skills and refine those they already have. There will be an emphasis on craftsmanship. We will be slowing things down and making sure we have our basic skills mastered. Allowing us to add new skills to our repertoire.This class is designed for the sewist who is comfortable with the  following skills-:

They understand their sewing machine- 

-how to operate and thread it

-how to insert/remove sewing needle

 -how to adjust tension

How to handle sewing scissors, cut fabric and use a seam ripper.

Comfortable sewing curves.

Understands seam allowances and is able to maintain an even one

 This class will require approval if you have not taken a sewing class at The Art Room before. Please, contact us and we can discuss your sewists' skills. It is our goal to set each student up for success. 

The first project we will tackle is a crossbody bag. This project will provide opportunities to learn how to: sew  with scissors, work with fusible fleece,add a lining,use bias tape and so much more. We will also explore using repurposed clothing for our bags instead of store bought fabric! The second project we will learn how to read and use a pattern. We will be making a pullover top with several sleeve variations to choose from-short sleeved/long sleeved, ruffles or no ruffles.  A materials list and information on choosing fabrics will be sent after registering for the class.

BASIC SUPPLIES for all Sewing Classes:

- GOOD fabric scissors ($10+)
- extra empty bobbins that fit your machine (do not by pre-wound bobbins)
- seam ripper
- box of sewing clips (100 for $10 on amazon)
-FABRIC: amounts for specific projects will be announced well in advance but most projects you can choose something from our stash

You must bring your own machine

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

IF the instructor has to cancel class for emergency reasons (personal or environmental) and we cannot find a replacement teacher, we will contact you as soon as possible through the Remind App. We will have makeup class at the end of the session.

If your student cannot attend a class during the session, there are no makeups or forwarded payments. Signing up for the class ensures your spot in the class. Lessons will be built on the previous weeks lesson and increase in difficulty as the semester goes on. If you missed the beginner classes, please look to sign ups for classes at the beginning of the next semester.
